What’s the name of the lake Alan?
Yarrambat Lake, Cheers
Great video mate I really enjoyed you walking through from beginning to end. What is the rod you’re using or what rod is a decent entry level to get me started, cheers.
Your very welcome, the rod used was a Favorite Black Swan they are very hard to source in Australia. Any 2-4kg spin rod would work well for both bait and soft plastics. Something Like a Shimano Raider, Shimano Zodias/Vanford combo, Daiwa TD Black combo. Have a look on the fishingmad website which suggests some great rod and reel options at different price points. fishingmad.com.au/review/best-spinning-rods-2024
@@fishingmad Thank you for taking the time to reply very much appreciated i'll check it out. Great to see you take your daughter out too, mine is about the same age and she enjoys a fish too.
Gday Allen, ever fished in cairns? Trinity inlet?, apparently there’s golden snapper, Barra, flattys, bream and trevally. The bait we will be using is squid. Is that a good all rounder, what rig will be the best for bait? Love your work mate, tight lines bro 🤙🎣🤙🎣🎣🤙🎣🎣🎣🎣 What’s the best size soft plastic? 3” or 4”?
Nah I haven't fished there before, years back I stayed at Trinity Beach for a holiday and was spewing I didn't get to throw a line. I'd love to head back at some stage and fish the whole top end of Australia. Squid is a dynamite bait choice as nearly everything in our seas eats squid, also it doesn't fall off the hook easily so that's a great choice. With plastics just take a variety of sizes, 3 inch prob best starting point and if you start catching bigger fish move up to 4 and 5 inch
Stradic sw 5k up is a spheros with gosa parts except for the drag underneath the spool. Slap a gosa spool and you get a Spherogosa
Hi Allan. They say no run no fun for KG whiting. How do you get these down to the bottom without sinker and running tide? Fish closer to slack tide? Will certainly give it a go.
Yeah, that's exactly right, This technique can be very difficult in very tidal waters. I plan my day to fish an hour on each side of the slack tide in tidal waters, Thankfully where I fish in PPB there is bugger all tidal flow so you don't have to worry about that too much.
WTF What kind of english does this guy speak? Can barely understand what he says...
Purchased a Stradic 6000XG a couple of days ago and was disappointed with the shaft going thru the spool. Doesn't look as robust as similarly priced Daiwa reels, but it does have faster retrieve which is what i was after.
You must have good knots how they didn't break earlier or the leader just snap being so light I don't know
Looks like an epic spot for spearfishing
Great show Allen and great bunch of people bye the sounds of it would love to go there and have a go, if the locals help out like that it's amazing top show 👍👍
Thank you so much, I agree its so good to see the local fishing community working together
What pier was it u showed at like start
Portland Lee Breakwall opposite the boat ramp
How do u use a sinker with a soft lure
No sinker, you use a jig head which has weight built into it. They come in a range of sizes and weights to match the soft plastic and depth your fishing
I was gonna go down there with my ultralight, but now that I’ve seen how much drag that fish pulled. I’m also gonna take my medium action 😅
Yeah I did the same took my finesse gear and ended up going back with a slightly heavier outfit
I caught 2 bass on soft plastics after using the techniques you taught in this video. Thank you for all the information
That is awesome! your very welcome
Hi Alan I love you video, I am beginners with small tinny, what would be safe wind and whether you recommend? And is there boat ramp in this you location
As a beginner, it's very important to understand wind and swell before venturing out. I study tools like meteye, willys and windy before every trip. Understanding the wind direction plays a massive difference in swell height that is safe or not safe. Eg in my area a 15k southerly will have meter plus waves yet a 15k northerly will be very flat. There are some very detailed vids in the FishingMad members area that might be really helpful for you as you're starting that cover stuff like this.
Funny how fast it warms up when you hook up.
Nice catch
Well demonstrated. 😊
Kiwi here. We catch a lot of these fish but we call it kahawai. If you bleed them straight away they are as good as any fish to eat.
Great video! Im having issues keeping the second snell *using the lighter piece of leader* catching snapper after a session out there or mid way thru i find that it comes loose an eventually just pull it off, im using 10lb sometimes 20lb on that snell any tips on how to keep it from coming loose.?
where is this does any none knows?
hey mate just wondering are you able to eat fish from these suburban lakes, like is it safe?
Thank you for the free soft plastic!!!
What kilo rod was the snapper on? I’m getting the daiwa bait junki 1-2 combo for 90 bucks, it comes with 3 packs of softies and spooled up with line. Also how do the Aussie salmon eat? Could u keep em? Loving the videos bro, tight line bro 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Hey Alan, what rod length is best suited for land based Soft Plastics fishing?
In this video I was using 7 foot rod, But I have since gone out and bought a Shimano Dialuna 8 foot rod which I think would be perfect for this sort of stuff. Much of this will depend on what species your targeting and what plastics or lures your casting
Good video mate. I see a lot of Aussies making videos they want people to watch but they don't disclose certain information to help others catch fish. Australia is a great country with plenty of fish and teaching others and sharing with others is the Good Aussie thing to do. Keep up the great work educating people how to fish safely helping them create new great memories. Cheers! 👍
Could you please try to make videos of fishing for trout at pakenham lake, emerald park lake, Olinda creek, Toomuc creek and Beaconsfield reservoir
So im guessing that there is no ap to download like a dji drone ??
You should try beach fishing in Torquay or jan kick you get flatys at the surf beach and gummy’s at front beach and jan juck surf beach
Yeah that's a great suggestion and a spot I've been wanting to fish for a while
Nice little salmon mate 🎣.
Lorne pier will be chockers this weekend hehehehe Great catches!! I've been catching 60 - 70cm salmon off the surf at Angelsea and Fairhaven.
Thanks !! Yeah i was very keen to try Angelsea and Fairhaven aswell. I stopped there last week on the way back from Lorne and managed a couple, but keen to give it a crack. I bought a new surf rod yesterday so that might be the perfect spot to break it in
Hey mate it’s me Linkin I’m the kid you spoke to
Awesome !! Was great to meet you, shame the salmon slowed down at the end there.
If you want bigger australian salmon you need to come to the South West in WA😊
I know these ones are huge for VIC but prob tiny for WA a mate of mine lives there and shows me pics of how good the salmon fishing is that way.
Was this at high tide?
I didn't pay to much attention to the tides, its deep enough at the end. Just rocked up mid morning and fished for a few hours
@@fishingmad awesome, have a good one
Could you fish the first rig with 2 half pillies or only set up for a full?
The snell rig is really designed for full pilchard or silver whiting, if you want to use half pilchards your much better using a paternoster rig i have video tutorials on that on the channel. Hook sizes are better for that and much better casting distance.
Nice work I was there a few weeks ago and not a touch... I guess you have to be there when the fish are about...
Yeah, I guess so. Ive done 2 trips there in the last 2 weeks. Trip one was this sesh, trip 2 was much quieter but still landed some really good ones just not many
They are really fun to catch 👍
Yep 100% they sure are. One of the most fun forms of fishing.
Any trout or Redfin spots near Melbourne that you would recommend
Heaps of good trout and redfin spots, which side of Melbourne are you on. Just as an example got places like pykes creek, Wurdibuloc res, Devilbend, lake fyans as some great options. Some really helpful articles on this on the FishingMad website.
Thank you, I’m in north Melbourne (Coburg) if that helps
haven't been out for a while - was thinking of having a quick flick this weekend off a pier if the weather permits. Is it time to put the paternoster and the pilchards away and focus more trawling soft plastics or stirring up some gars?
Gars 100% are fishing well right now so that's an option, I've been doing a bit of land based fishing lately and the soft plastics have been far more productive on the pinkies, trevally and salmon., but I'm sure you can still catch plenty with paternoster rig and bait
@@fishingmad Thanks! Is the top of the bay still worth it or better to head further down like Mordy, Frankston, Mornington, etc? I had some good fun with pinkies around Webb Dock during the summer but don't know much about how far up the bay various species push when the water starts to cool. Alternately, I am a Fishingmad Member if you can point me to the appropriate page 👍
Always feel free to send me an email directly yo alan@fishingmad.com.au and I can provide you with a really detailed answer to get you onto some productive areas, personalised to where you fish
@@fishingmad Thanks Alan, will do.
Hi Allen looks like you guys had so much fun, my wife wants me to take her there , just wondering what the plastic your using is called cheers
Combination of a few things, Keitech easy shiners 4 inch rigged on 1/4 ounce jig head, Squidgee 120mm wrigglers again rigged on 1/4 and the big one was caught on a lazy lures bomb squad pre rigged plastic in artic assasin
Thanks Allan love your fishing show
Salmon, the chicken parma of the sea, great fighting, great eating. enjoy
Hey Alan! I’ve got a 2-4kg rod with a 8lb braid. will that work for the salmons there ?
Yes that will work fine, if you land a big one it will certainly test your gear. Just be weary not to cast anything to heavy so you don't break your rod tip. When fishing areas like this I tend to fish a tad heavier but it should be fine.
When did musta fishing become Alan’s camera man
Lol. mate the comradery of fishing is fantastic. Highs and lows spent with people who love the sport. what a pleasure to watch. This is what fishing is about for me. Made my day mate.
Thanks !! I agree 100% the best thing about that day was spending time with some wonderful people. That's why I kept some of that footage in as it shows people helping each other, the friendly banter and strangers coming together and sharing a passion. Thanks for watching.
Mate that is awesome! My dad has been telling me we cant go fishing because Winter is not the right time. Little does he know I will be showing him this on Friday night! Great Video Alan!
Thanks !! Yeah 100% you can still catch in Winter just need to follow the right species and locations and the action can be lots of fun. Just wear plenty of warm clothes.
where about at port philip bay,? so scary
Great video Allan long time follower Could I ask what tide do you fish and type of plastics also surf beach fishing
Thanks Rob !! Honestly with this vid we didn't even look at the tides, we just left in the morning and arrived at 8.30am and were done by 11.30. This time of year you often get good schools of salmon in close in that entire region, the plan was to fish there and if it was quiet try the beaches on the way back. I often fin the bite will go quiet slack tide but mid tide up or down seems to be fine when your well out on a pier and still fishing good depths. The plastics I was using were 4 inch paddletails in whites and natural colours rigged on 1/2, 1/4 and 1/6 ounce.
You make fishing look sooooo easy
Thanks !! Love days like this when you turn up and the fishing action is crazy, there are often times with long hours on the water.
@@fishingmad I only catch saltwater fish on my uncles boat not on piers, love western port bay and port Phillip bay fishing
I started using soft plastic over hard plastic swim baits. Rainbow trout eat each other 🤔⁉️ I've been using sunfish plastic for rainbow trout fishing stOrm bait's.
ngl this bangs!
